Our Story
The #AFK Collective was born from a simple observation: despite unprecedented access to educational technology, many students and educators felt more disconnected than ever. We saw classrooms where screens replaced conversation, platforms that prioritized engagement over learning, and digital tools that created barriers rather than bridges between people.
Founded in 2019 by a group of educators and technologists who had grown frustrated with the "technology for technology's sake" approach dominating educational innovation, we set out to prove that digital tools could actually strengthen human connections when designed with intention and care.
Our first project was a simple community platform that helped local families coordinate learning pods during the pandemic. What started as a practical solution to an immediate problem became a proof of concept for our philosophy: technology works best when it helps people work better together.
Today, we work with schools, communities, and organizations across the country to design and implement educational technology that puts human connection at the center. Every project we take on is guided by our core question: "How can this technology help people learn, grow, and create together?"
